As Android User who is waiting Samsung Vibrant, this is horrible lie to customer.
Their software support is horrible. I tried to think Vibrant will be different, but I cannot stop to think Froyo would be last update for Vibrant.

That IS bad news. Please do as I do and email Samsung too tell them that this is just bad for them self. I have already seen a lot of comments about that this will keep people from buying the Vibrant. People does not want too buy a expensive phone that risks too be outdated in a year or so.

A year or so? No, it'll be outdated the day it's released. Android 2.2 is the standard for phones coming this summer.

The Vibrant will release with 2.1, and while Samsung has promised to update it to 2.2, they made a very similar promise to the Behold 2 users and look how that's worked out.

I'm a huge fan of the Vibrant, but I'm going to be very careful to confirm that I'll have the option of upgrading it (either manually or OTA) before I buy one.

I'm in complete agreement. One of the best things about Android is its aggressive dev cycle. Not being able to upgrade would be miserable, especially considering the modular upgrade strategy they're supposedly adopting after 2.2.

Honestly, while the specs of the galaxy S are pretty wonderful, I'm starting to lean back toward the dell streak. 5" screen covered in gorilla glass is a pretty sweet thing.

And that is the soul reason why people don't really trust Samsung.
or like them for that matter.

I'm not terribly worried...  This is the first Android phone I really heard much about from Samsung, and given their ambitions to release it anywhere and everywhere, it sounds like they intend to make it a big deal.  Hence, I expect we'll at least get a Froyo upgrade, hopefully more.

Plus, the more popular a phone is, the more work people will put into rooting it and keeping it up to date with unofficial roms.  If this phone is really going to be all over the place, there should be a pretty decent community of developers and hackers working with it.

My main concern is that I'll be getting the AT&T version (the "Captivate"), and AT&T will probably try to lock it down, so hopefully it'll be easier to root than the Backflip has been...

Lol the reason it stoped is because the phone could barely handle that current os, why in the heck would you make it even worse? Flash would kill the beholds porformance in a instant. This is why phones with better specs last longer.
