Rooted my Vibrant tonight.  After transferring the rooting file to my phone, somehow it ended up being named update.zip.zip.  My first attempt didn't work with the file named this way.  Read some forums and found this issue.  I renamed the file correctly "update.zip", on my phone and tried again.  Bingo, I am now rooted.  Had the confirmation file: Superuser Permissions under applications.  Didn't know what to do from there.  Checked forums again and found I needed Titanium Backup Free to delete the root applications.  That working, I then concentrated on getting wifi tethering to work.  I downloaded the wifi tethering app, copied to my phone, and installed.  My laptop immediately saw the phone as a wifi source and could connect but the laptop could not connect to the internet.  Bummer.  After some checking in network settings, on my laptop, I found I needed to set the connection to the phone wifi as a home network.  Bingo!  Now I can use my Vibrant as a wifi source and connect it to my laptop usb port to charge my phone.  Aroooooooo!   Laugh

Hells yeah... Now you should look into installing a custom ROM. You can have FROYO running on the Vibrant in no time and not have to wait for T-Mobile to send it out. I am using Team Whiskey's Onyx 4.2 + DOW overclocking kernel + One Click Lag Fix. Makes the Vibrant super fast!!!!

Any downsides to ditching the orginal ROM for the Team Whisky ROM?  I've heard of things like your headphone port not working.

I have had no problems with the Onyx rom and I just flashed the Nero Beta3 rom with the DoW 1.4 and Voodoo5 kernel yesterday and no problems either. Super super fast now! I know that the Dragon-Nero rom has problems with the headphones. If you flash a rom you don't like you can always use Odin to flash back to the stock rom.

OK...rooted and flashed bionix v.  How do I get Onyx 4.2, DOW overclocking, and One Click Lag Fix?  Any others that you could suggest to help my phone run faster and more efficiently?  Thanks.

Onyx is a old ROM so no need to flash that. Bionix V uses Voodoo lag fix so no need to use One Click lag fix. Download the latest verson of the DOW kernel from Team Whiskeys site and place it on the root of your internal sd card. Boot into clockwork recovery and install the DOW zip file just like you did with the ROM. Then download setcpu from the market and use it to overclock the cpu to 1.4 Ghz.

Great.  Thanks.  One more question and then I will start flashing - what is the best ROM to flash to enable wifi tethering?

All the 2.2 roms are about the same when it comes to tethering.

Oh crap - I flashed the DOW overclocking ROM and my phone froze up.  I took the battery out, restarted it, and I can't get it to do anything.  I tried it several times again, and one time I got to the applications list and it froze again.  Is there a way to undo just this flash, or do I have to start all over?
