Disclaimer:  We are NOT responsible for your phone, make sure you know what you doing before taking action to root your phone.

http://www.intomobile.com/2010/07/20/root-your-samsung-vibrant-tutorial/

So you’ve got your brand new Samsung Vibrant, and you want to root it, do you? Good news for you, it’s actually very easy to get root access on this handset.

*NOTE* This will likely void your warranty, and you should do this at your own risk. We take no responsibility if you turn your Vibrant into a paperweight.

This method will allow you to give root access to root-only applications. There are currently no custom ROMs for the device yet, so if that is what you’re looking for, you may want to wait it out a little longer until custom ROMs have been developed. We’re looking  out for CyanogenMod 6 down the road!

So let’s get started:

   1. Download this file and rename it to “update.zipâ€
   2. On your Vibrant, go to Settings > Applications > USB Settings > and select Mass Storage.
   3. Connect your Vibrant to your computer, and mount as a mass storage device by pulling down the notification bar at the top of the screen.
   4. Back on your computer, look for a new drive. We’re looking for the Internal Storage, not the External, so make sure you open the drive that does NOT have the Avatar movie in it.
   5. Copy (drag and drop) the update.zip file to the Internal Storage.
   6. Turn off the phone.
   7. Hold down the volume up and down buttons while turning the Vibrant on, which will bring you to the recovery mode.
   8. To navigate in Recovery, use volume up and down to move, and Power button to select. Select ‘Reinstall Packages“
   9. After installed, your phone will reboot, and will have the Superuser app, as well as Busybox installed.
  10. You’re Rooted!

Easy enough, right? T-Mobile’s first super Android device is already a winner with the hackers, and it seems like the average consumer seems to like it as well. Now all we have to wait for is some custom ROMs, or an official OTA to get some Froyo action.

Go get some root apps to hold you over until a custom ROM becomes available!

I have followed all of these steps but I am still not sure what to do afterward. I see all these posts about using cmd prompt to do stuff but I am confused as to what they are doing or talking about.

How do I allow admissions for my superuser?

I was told that rooting my phone will allow me to tether and also to uninstall all the crap pre-installed on my phone but so far I can't do either. Please help.

Hello,

new in this forum and in Android + Galaxy Vibrant. I tried to follow the instructions. I get to put the update.zip into the fone, but:

[6. Turn off the phone.
   7. Hold down the volume up and down buttons while turning the Vibrant on, which will bring you to the recovery mode.]

I tried but the Galaxy start normally??? I press both volumes and than the On button but nothing happens, I mean it start as usual...

Thank you

Regards

You are probably letting go of the volume buttons too soon. Once the phone powers on you release the power button but continue to hold down the volume keys until it boots into recovery mode. You can also just download and install One Click Lag Fix and it will root the phone for you.

Get One Click Lag Fix here:

Yes, now it worked, I let "Vibrant" appears 3 times ,-)

With this O C L F was not possible cause Root was a "Red" one ;-(

Now happy with Axura. I just wanted to have the tethering function from 2.2. With Eclair I could not connect my Laptop Wi Fi.

For the moment it is all... I spend to much time with this ;-)

Thank you
