Today I updated my T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant with the official Samsung/T-Mobile 2.2 (Froyo) firmware release (updated via Samsung Kies Mini application).

There are only two keyboards now available: Swype and Samsung. The Android keyboard is missing! I do not like either the Swype or Samsung keyboard.

I can't seem to find that keyboard in the Market, anyone know how I can get this keyboard interface back?

Well I did some searching and unless your phone is rooted there there is no stock Android 2.1 or 2.2 keyboard that you can install. However, there is the Gingerbread keyboard. I have been using this keyboard for a while now and its great! Just download it and install it like any other app. Just make sure you have allowed installation of non market apps under settings.

Someone on the T-Mobile forums pointed me to this solution:

Use this link. This is a port of the android gingerbread keyboard.

You do NOT need to root your phone for this installation.

Two files are available for downloading:
  • gbkb-en.apk (1.03 MB) - EN (English) only
  • gbkb.apk (7.29 MB) - includes BG, CS, CZ, DA, DE, EN, ES, FI, FR, IT, NB, NL, PL, PT, RU, SL, and SV dictionaries.
